Friends of Colwick Woods – Call out for Volunteer Project Leaders

Join Camille McCawley, one of our Wilder Nottinghamshire Officers (South) as she interviews the Chair of Friends of Colwick Woods, JD Atkin, and find out more about their callout for volunteer project leaders.
Camille: Who are FOCW and what do you do?

JD: The Friends of Colwick Woods are a volunteer run conservation group that have been working with the Colwick Woods green space since 2004. The group’s aim is to engage with the community to support the woodland’s ecosystem through projects such as litter picking, tree and native wildflower planting, pond digging, and installing wildlife homes.

Colwick Woods is a diverse site of fifty hectares featuring hilly woodland, dense tree cover, wet grassland, meadowland and parkland and this diversity is reflected in the flora and fauna that calls the woods home.

Camille: What are the roles that are available and why are they needed?

JD: The Friends of Colwick Woods is an open organisation that welcomes new ideas, new approaches and new ways of thinking. The woodland is an incredibly unique space close to the city and we would encourage anyone who would like to spend more time with nature to contact us.

We encourage our members to be active both in the woods and within the group and, for those that wish to help direct the future of the Friends of Colwick Woods, the opportunity exists for volunteer project leaders to really get stuck in.

Colwick Woods is a huge site though still faces challenges from a changing environment and human encroachment. We are seeking those people who seek to stand up for nature and will help to keep the woods safe and bountiful for wildlife in the years to come.

JD: Anyone wishing to join our projects, or to join the group as a project manager, should contact us via email to focw.enquiries@gmail.com
