Uplift your gift

Learn how you can make your donation go even further with Gift Aid

The work of the Trust wouldn’t be possible without the kind support of members and donors. Together we’re making a positive difference for nature across Nottinghamshire.

But did you know that if you’re a UK taxpayer you can grow your donation through Gift Aid – at no extra cost to yourself? Raising even more funds to protect and restore local wildlife!

You may have heard about Gift Aid before, but not known exactly what it means or how you can sign up. Keep reading to find out more from the Trust’s Treasurer Colin Gibson, who explains more about Gift Aid and the difference it can make for wildlife.

‘I’ve been proud to have been a Trustee since 2015 and became Honorary Treasurer early the following year.  We are not a particularly wealthy Trust and throughout my time membership income has been our largest single source of income, boosted by your generous donations.  Thank you all.  We need every penny we can find to carry out our invaluable work and there’s a great way to boost your generosity.  So if you are a UK taxpayer and have not already signed up for Gift Aid I’d be delighted if you would consider doing so.  The Government will then give us an extra 25% on top of your gift – not a bad deal!

This is how it works:

If you’re a UK taxpayer, the value of your gift to Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust can be increased by 25% under the Gift Aid scheme, at no additional cost to you. Using Gift Aid means that for every £1 you give, we can claim an additional 25p from HM Revenue and Customs, helping your gift go even further.  This means that a donation of £100 could be worth £125 to help wildlife in our county.

That’s more funds that could be used to help our Trust in every way. Just one of many examples: to create habitat for rare species like the hazel dormouse, turtle dove or white-letter hairstreak butterfly - to name just a few!

But where does this money come from? Gift Aid is reclaimed from the tax you pay in the relevant tax year. If you’ve given us a Gift Aid declaration, we’re able to claim 25% of the value of your donation from HM Revenue and Customs. Remember though that if you pay less Income Tax and / or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all your donations that tax year you will be required by HMRC to pay any difference.
