Gift Aid

Make your donation or membership go further and increase the value of your generosity without it costing you a penny more.

If you are a UK taxpayer, the value of your gift can be increased by 25% under the Gift Aid scheme at no extra cost to you. This means that a donation of £100 could be worth an extra £25 to us.

Yes, I want Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust to claim Gift Aid on donations and memberships payments I make now, in the future and the past 4 years.

I am a UK taxpayer and understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year it is my responsibility to pay any difference.

Gift Aid is reclaimed by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust from the tax that you pay for the current tax year. Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust will reclaim 25p in tax back for every £1 that you donate.

Please notify Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust if you wish to cancel this declaration, if you change your name or home address or no longer pay sufficient tax on your income / capital gains.

Any changes in future?

Please notify Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust if you wish to cancel this declaration, if you change your name or home address or no longer pay sufficient tax on your income / capital gains.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a scheme that allows our charity to claim 25p from HMRC for every £1 that you donate, at no extra cost to yourself. If you’re a UK taxpayer, you can make a Gift Aid declaration and we do the rest!

Gift Aid is an important source of income for our charity, as we receive 25% extra income from this each month. This helps our charity look after nature reserves across the county, providing homes for wildlife and beautiful places for people to visit.

Do I qualify for Gift Aid?

To qualify for Gift Aid:

  • You need to be a UK taxpayer.
  • You need to have paid or expect to pay enough income / capital gains tax in the tax year (6th April to 5th April) your gift was received to cover all the Gift Aid donations you made to charity that year. You also need to be sure you paid enough tax to cover donations made in the previous 4 years as the Gift Aid declaration allows us to claim for past donations within this time.
  • You need to make a Gift Aid declaration.
  • You need to pay for membership or make a donation from your own funds. With a Joint or Family membership, this should be nominated by one person.

Does my declaration cover all donations I’ve ever made to you?

We only have four tax years in which to claim the tax relief on your donations. If donations you’ve made go back further than four years, we’ll only apply the tax relief to donations within the allowed period.

How can I make a Gift Aid declaration?

You can sign up either by;

  • completing our quick and easy online form above
  • contacting us at supportercare@nottswt.co.uk or 0115 958 82 42 and we will be happy to send a form to you in the post.

How can I update my Gift Aid details or cancel my declaration?

Please contact us if you would like to cancel your declaration, if you change your name or home address or no longer pay sufficient tax on your income / capital gains. You can contact us using our contact form or phone us on 0115 958 8242.

What if I haven’t made a Gift Aid declaration?

We may contact you from time to time to ask if it’s possible to take this opportunity to support us. If you’re not a UK taxpayer or prefer not to, just let us know and we’ll update our records.

What are the rules around Gift Aid and parking at Attenborough Nature Reserve?

As a thank you for membership, we offer our members the opportunity to park at Attenborough Nature Reserve without having to pay parking charges. Members are able to register up to two vehicles which will be exempt from parking charges.

This is considered a ‘membership benefit’ for tax purposes for which there are implications when claiming Gift Aid on membership subscriptions.

To be able to claim Gift Aid on a membership subscription, the value of the benefit used cannot exceed 25% of the total value of the annual membership subscription.

If the benefit is used over this value, we’re unable to claim Gift Aid on your membership subscription but can still claim it on any donations you kindly make.

Please see the table below which shows examples of subscription amounts, and the number of times parking can occur within a financial year at each of the tariff amounts after which Gift Aid cannot be claimed:

Annual membership subscription amount 25% of annual subscription amount Number of times can park before Gift Aid can’t be claimed – free 30 minutes Number of times can park after which Gift Aid can’t be claimed – at £3 rate Number of times can park after which Gift Aid can’t be claimed – at £4 rate Number of times can park after which Gift Aid can’t be claimed – at £5 rate

£75 £18.75 Unlimited 6 4 3
£100 £25.00 Unlimited 8 6 5

Why have you written to me to let me know you couldn’t claim my Gift Aid this year?

If we haven’t been able to claim Gift Aid, we will write to you to let you know. This is for your records and to also ensure that higher and additional level amounts of income tax aren’t inadvertently reclaimed where applicable.
