Mike, who visited Nottinghamshire last week to take part in a public debate about opportunities for species re-introductions in the county, including parts of Sherwood Forest, regularly presents wildlife films on BBC1’s The One Show and Inside Out. A former University of Nottingham student he has been a Vice-President of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust since 2012 and in 2016 visited the former Rufford Colliery site to see first-hand the work the Wildlife Trust is doing in partnership with Harworth Group to create large areas of heathland, acid grassland and wood pasture adjacent to the charity’s Rainworth Heath Nature Reserve, east of Mansfield.

Speaking about the work of the Trust in Sherwood Forest Mike said:

“For over 50 years Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust has been working not only on protecting the county's outstanding wildlife, but also restoring and recreating threatened habitats, including in the heart of Sherwood Forest. I’m excited to hear that the habitat restoration work I saw at Rainworth in 2016 is making great strides and am delighted to have been made a Champion of Sherwood. I would encourage people to fully support the Wildlife Trust to help them restore and reconnect the great heathlands and oak forests that once linked Nottingham and Worksop.”
