A "Wild Life" is brewing for Murphy & Son employees
As part of Basford based Murphy & Sons’ continuing commitment to a greener and more sustainable business, the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust is excited to welcome them as one of its valued Business Partners.
This follows on from their successful collaboration with fellow Business Partner, Nottingham Trent University and their “Sustainability in Enterprise Project”. The project has highlighted a potential commitment for Murphy & Son to implement the initiative’s recommendations which could result in them saving an estimated 216 tonnes of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent), or 65% of their overall footprint, from their operations also providing a financial saving of around £24,000 per year. Their immediate actions will result in a reduction of 27%, or 90 tonnes of CO2e.

As part of the partnership with the Trust, Murphy & Son are offering all their staff a year’s membership to Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust giving each member (and their families) the opportunity to support, understand and appreciate the Trust’s vision that “Nottinghamshire’s people and wildlife are thriving together”. The Trust has also provided advice to the company on how they can improve their site to be more welcoming and beneficial to local wildlife and their employees, where even small changes can have a large impact on urban flora and fauna.

Murphy & Son’s newly appointed Sustainability Coordinator, Jordan Heeley, commented “We’re delighted to have formed this partnership with Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. As a business we are proud to be based in Nottinghamshire and want to play our part in supporting the growth of biodiversity in the region.”
He continued, “Our commitments towards becoming a sustainable business have involved investing in solar panels and an electric vehicle charger on site. This opportunity allows us to focus on nature and learn how we can support biodiversity at our site and within the county.”
Emily Patrick, Business Partnerships Officer, at Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust commented “It’s fantastic having Murphy and Son join us as a Business Partner and support to create a Wilder Nottinghamshire. It was really great to visit with Lorna our City Nature Recovery Officer to look at the green space at their site and offer some advice on the how they can improve the space by introducing a wildflower meadow and planting for pollinators. I look forward to seeing how the space develops and a long standing partnership ahead of us!”
