All year roundAbout the reserve
The reserve was donated to Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust in 1999. It was formerly the garden of a period property next door and still has many original 1930s features, including paths, flowerbeds and steps. The Wildlife Trust has worked to enhance the existing woodland on the site, which now features a diverse range of habitats including a pond, wildflower beds, native fruit trees and a raised herb bed.
Part of the plan was to have a range of ‘wild food’ plants to show people how they can utilize these plants for jams, jellies and drinks. The wildflower bed is affectionately referred to as the ‘bobbin garden’ by the warden and volunteers due to multi-coloured plastic bobbins being used to mark the tiny plug plants when they were first put in. All you could see from a distance were the bobbins not the plants!
