As we move towards spring, our ancient woodland nature reserves will start to come to life. Purple carpets of bluebells will emerge in April, alongside the delicate white flowers of wood-sorrel and wood-anemone. A walk in our ancient woodlands as they burst into colour is a truly magical experience.
A visit to our ancient woodlands around an hour before sunrise provides yet another memorable occasion. As we progress towards May and June, the dawn chorus of birds will get louder and louder, as more and more birds sing to defend their territory and attract a mate.
