Here at Clarborough Primary School, we value the importance of learning beyond the confines of the classroom. Our after-school Forest Club has been a big hit among the children, allowing them to explore nature, build campfires, cook on tripods, and immerse themselves in the great outdoors. The children have also displayed their creativity by embarking on micro journeys, where they've mapped out a village from an insect's perspective, complete with a park, stadium, shops, and more.
Getting wild about outdoor learning
In addition to our Forest Club, we also run an after-school Gardening Club, where children get their hands dirty planting fruits and vegetables, and even creating bug hotels. These activities not only teach valuable gardening skills but also help instil a sense of responsibility and care for the environment in our children.
This half term, the Early Years Foundation Stage spent all week outside as they took part in camping week, complete with their very own camping toilet! The children left their teddies for a sleepover, though in the morning they had played a trick on the children and were hiding around the campsite. The week included parachute games, nature bracelets, hot dogs, wheelbarrow rides and welly throwing!
By incorporating outdoor learning into our curriculum, we aim to provide a holistic education that nurtures not just academic abilities but also practical skills, creativity, and a love for the natural world.
